What Documents Are Required for a Simple Divorce in Ontario?

If you are here, you are probably getting ready to start your divorce process. Below are the documents and information that are typically required for a Simple / Joint Divorce in Ontario:

1. Marriage Certificate
This can be a Canadian marriage certificate or a marriage certificate issued from any country where your marriage was legally registered. If the certificate is in a foreign language, it must be translated into English. Our team can assist with certified translation services if needed. Additional translation fees may apply.

2. Government Identification
Identification such as your Driver’s Licence, Passport, or other valid government-issued ID.

3. Completed Court Forms
We will help prepare all necessary court forms and affidavits for your divorce application.

4. Address Information for Your Spouse
We will need your spouse’s current address and contact information for court purposes.

5. Separation Information
You will need to provide the date of separation and some basic information about your marriage and separation. If you already have a Separation Agreement, please send us a copy as it may help support your application.

6. Children Information (if applicable)
If there are children involved, the court will require information regarding parenting arrangements and child support to ensure proper arrangements are in place. This information is often already included in a Separation Agreement. If you do not have one, simply provide us with the details and we can prepare the required court documents for you.

That’s usually all that is needed to get started. Once the documents are prepared, we will schedule a meeting with you for signing and commissioning. After that, we will submit everything to the Court on your behalf.

Our team will keep you updated throughout the process until your Divorce Order is granted.

We wish you all the best during this process.
